General Credit Principles
The Manus Desktop App uses the same underlying credit system as the web-based platform. The desktop application itself does not have a separate, fixed credit bundle. Instead, it is linked directly to your central Manus account.
Whether you are on the Free plan (which provides a daily refresh of 300 credits after the initial 1,000 registration credits) or a paid Pro plan (starting at 4,000 credits per month), the credits available in your desktop app will perfectly mirror the balance shown in your web dashboard. There is no additional credit allocation for installing or using the desktop app.
Does the Desktop App Consume Credits Automatically?
No. The Manus Desktop App does not consume credits simply by being open or running in the background on your computer.
Credits are only deducted when the Manus Agent is actively processing a task. If you are merely using the Chat Mode to ask questions or converse without triggering an agent workflow, no credits are consumed. The application is designed to be resource-efficient and transparent about when it is performing complex, credit-consuming operations.
Cloud vs. Local Inference: Is There a Difference?
Many users wonder if they are charged differently when the desktop app interacts with their local machine through the "My Computer" feature, or when Manus utilizes their local GPU to run a large language model for inference.
Currently, credit usage is based entirely on the computational resources and LLM tokens consumed by the Manus Agent to plan, decide, and execute the task. While Manus can utilize your local compute power to perform tasks (like training machine learning models or executing local scripts), the orchestration, planning, and agentic decision-making still rely on the core Manus cloud infrastructure.
Therefore, running tasks that interact with your local computer or utilize your local GPU will consume credits at the same rate as equivalent tasks run entirely in the cloud. The complexity of the task dictates the credit cost, not the location of the files being processed or the specific hardware executing the final commands.
